Pearl Mae Bailey is an American actress and singer. After performing in the variety, she made her Broadway debut at St. John's. Louis Woman in 1946. She won the Tony Award for starring in Hello's all-black film, Dolly! in 1968. In 1986, she won the Daytime Emmy Award for her role as Godmother in ABC Afterschool Special, Cindy Eller: A Modern Fairy Tale. Her performance "Takes Two to Tango" reached the top 10 in 1952. She received the Screen Actors' Life Achievement Award in 1976 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom on October 17, 1988
